CCI STCE-SG: Central Plant Controller

Central plant controller, compliant with the CEI 0-16 standard.

The STCE-SG CCI is a specific configuration of the STCE-SG modular RTU. In addition to secure and advanced control, monitoring, and distributed automation functions, the STCE-SG CCI has the advantage of being a Central Plant Controller whose role complies with the resolution of the Italian Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks, and the Environment (ARERA) regarding generation plants.

The Central Plant Controller (CCI) is essential to fulfill Terna's request for compliance in line with Resolution 540/2021/R/eel, which requires real-time monitoring of generation plants connected to the MV grid and with a power output greater than or equal to 1 MW. Prosumers are required to install the CCI, designed according to the technical specifications of the CEI 016 Annex O standard, enabling the collection and exchange of data between Terna, distribution operators, and the plant for the safe operation of the national electricity system.

UPDM: Peripheral Unit of Defense and Monitoring Systems

The Electricity System Defense Plan includes corrective action defense systems that implement disconnection actions in response to predefined events or generation modulation.

To this end, a peripheral Defense and Monitoring device (UPDM) must be installed at the generation plants serving the aforementioned defense systems. This device is responsible for acquiring measurements and other auxiliary information, as well as implementing disconnection or generation modulation commands following the receipt of a message from other peripheral remote tripping devices or from Terna's central defense system.

Trax99 has had certified UPDM solutions since 2004 and ensures their technological evolution and updating, particularly with regard to the gradual expansion of functional performance and compliance with the highest cybersecurity standards in the field of remote control.

DP's UPDM device is based on the STCE-RTU device and plays a crucial role in ensuring the stability and security of the Italian electricity grid, helping to maintain its balance and protect against any anomalies.

It is built in compliance with the reference specifications, according to Terna Annexes A52 and A69, and validated by Terna itself according to the TSPSD 0707 specification. It is certified as a type A device in the analog version and A+ in the Gateway version.

DigitalPlatforms' UVRF System was designed to monitor and verify the correct provision of the ultra-rapid frequency regulation ("Fast Reserve") service, according to Terna SpA's specifications.

The UVRF ensures effective management of grid frequency dynamics and contributes to the stability and reliability of the electricity system.

As part of the energy transition, the increase in intermittent, non-programmable renewable energy and the reduction in conventional power generation impacts grid frequency control as well as system inertia. To better address this phenomenon, Terna has begun testing this new ultra-rapid "Fast Reserve" regulation service, aimed at improving the dynamic response of the initial instants during frequency transients, thus supporting the stability of the national electricity system.

It plays a fundamental role in ensuring effective signal transmission in the relevant band between the OCV device and the power line. The SCA guarantees maximum protection of the transmission equipment from power signals and transient overvoltages from the power lines. Coupling can be performed between phase and ground or between phases. Its installation and maintenance are simple and completely safe, and the device is guaranteed to last a long time in outdoor installations.

Analog and Digital Remote Protection Devices

Protection requirements are very important in a modern power grid, ensuring the protection of its components, the safety of the entire system, transient stability, and overall operational safety. Protection systems and related automation, primarily consisting of fast and slow automatic reclosing devices, are used to protect the grid from generation to distribution and transmission. The protection device is located at the end of the power line and is designed to isolate faults in HV lines, transformers, reactors, and other system components. It measures voltage, current, and impedance, and, in the event of a fault, opens the relevant circuit breaker to prevent failure and damage to the electrical system. Although they must protect the entire length of the power line, they are set to cover 80% of it to prevent unwanted triggers and resulting power outages.
